Bio

Ints Egils Mikelsons was born to parents Vilis and Andine Mikelsons, on October 20, 1948, in Haddington, Scotland. He moved to Hamilton, Ontario with his parents and sister Alda at the age of 6. Hamilton’s vibrant Latvian population embraced them: Ints’ youth was filled with activities within the Latvian community which were a welcome support and introduction to life in Canada. He studied photography at Sheridan College and made his career in graphic arts.

Ints was an avid record collector and connoisseur of all things film, music, and visual arts. He was passionate about sharing his vast knowledge with friends and family and often impressed the crowds at parties with his ability to pull out obscure names of artists on a moment’s notice—a testament to his incredible memory. He was a skilled pool player and nothing made him prouder than when he came home from his annual snooker tournament bearing the prized trophy that he’d earned with his son Julien. He had an eye for architecture and a deep appreciation for natural spaces, a love which he passed on to all three of his children.

Above all, Ints deeply cherished his loving wife, Claudette, his steadfast partner in life. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and music. He adored his children and was immensely proud of them. Ints treasured time with his close-knit family, especially summers spent on the shores of Lake Kasshabog, a tradition spanning over forty years.
